The ingredients needed to make Palak dal:
  1. Make ready 3/4 cup toor Dal (or you can mix different lentils)
  2. Get 3/4 cup chopped spinach
  3. Prepare 1 tsp ginger and garlic paste (I always use fresh paste in my recipes)
  4. Take 1 red dry chilli
  5. Take A pinch of asfoetida
  6. Take few cumin and black mustard seeds
  7. Make ready turmeric powder and salt
  8. Make ready 3/4 cup water
  9. Make ready 1 medium tomato chopped
  10. Take 1/2 tsp garam masala
Instructions to make Palak dal:
  1. Boil water in a pressure cooker, add turmeric powder, salt, toor Dal, spinach and tomatoes.
  2. Wait for 4-5 whistles on medium to high flame usually takes 5-6 minutes. - open the lid when pressure is released, mash the Dal with spoon.
  3. Heat Ghee in a tadka pan, add cumin and mustard seeds, let it crackle, add ginger-garlic paste, saute for 20 seconds, add asfoetida. Add this tempering in the cooked Dal and then add garam masala. - - Mix well, give it a boil for 1 minutes, serve hot with rice or chapati.
